Teen Talk: Peer Pressure

I believe that peer pressure is a very important topic, because it can become dangerous. Some people see peer pressure as "oh they are just having fun" which may be the case sometimes, but often peer pressure can result in mental and physical harm!

I'm a 19 year old female, and many people my age go out every weekend, drink which is absolutely fine for them. But I don't enjoy that, being in those types of social situations usually result in me feeling very uncomfortable and having a panic attack. Although people around me know this, my friends will still try and force me to do things i'm really quite scared of and it usually goes something like this "why don't you drink, come on don't be boring, why won't you come to the party or uptown, god your such a saddo. Now over the years I have got much better at saying no which is something we all need to learn.

Don't get me wrong I still find it hard to say no to people and social situations get me very anxious so saying no is still a problem but iv learn't over the years to say no more and more.

Other than drinking which is something I say no to if I don't feel comfortable where I am or who i'm with, I have been pushed in to other things such as smoking when I was 13 (I only did it the once) and other smaller thing that might seem small to others but it is peer pressure no the less.

  • Drinking
  • Smoking
  • Bullying
  • Intamacy with others
At first I didn't see bullying as peer pressure, but when thinking back I can't recall situations where people have joined in when bullying somebody because the bullies told them to and they are scared of retaliation coming to them.

Sometimes peer pressure could come in the smallest form that you wouldn't perceive as peer pressure, such as "I dare you to ride your skateboard down that hill or eat that" and it might not seem bad but if you are thinking to yourself, is it against the law? Do I really want to do this?

If the answer is "no I don't want to do this" then remove yourself from the situation, and if it is going to course harm to you or others tell your parents. Also if it is a 'friend' telling you to do these things then maybe they aren't the healthiest person to be friends with.

I have some links here that could also help.

I hope this helps some of you guys, feel free to comment if you need somebody to talk to.

New Year Resolutions

Do any of you guys, believe in the new year bringing about the power within yourself to over come an old habit, or perhaps start new? For example quiting smoking or starting a new sport.
A lot of people take the new year as their chance, but often fail in there

endeavour, where as others believe that if you want to make a difference in your life you should start as soon as possible rather than wait for the new year to bring new tidings, and there are those who manage to stick by there new life and make the change last.

I never really bothered with resolutions before, but last year I did sit down and make a list and I managed to stick by a few, so this year I am taking them more seriously.

Here is the list I have this year:

  • Live More Naturally
  • Improve My Health
  • Designs
To live more naturally and improve my health come hand in hand, and as for designs that is one of my hobbies and projects that you guys will possibly find out about.

Last years list:
Last Years
  • Knit
  • Get fit
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Camera
  • Blog
As you can see last years list if much longer than this years! The only one I didn't try is knitting , but the others I did try and one I accomplished.

The one I accomplished would be this blog, I say I accomplished it because i still write and plan for it even though I may not be the best writer and planner but i do try, and I enjoy it, now get fit, guitar  and bass are things I started but was never able to follow through, for the get fit i have the excuse of having a bad year and constantly giving up and restarting, where are for learning new instruments, I do not have the patience for learning them but I won't be giving up. Camera is also something that iI still learning as technology is always changing, this brings me to this years resolutions.

Of course these resolutions are not something that can be done at the click of your fingers so i will be doing them in steps and I will be keeping you guys posted at the steps I make.

Journal Entry: Thieves Of The Night

This is a story of the elves, not the tall noble elves for Tolkien's tales or the happy elves from Christmas corals, that bring excitement and cheer, but in fact the tinkering kind that came in the night, to add frustration to our lives.

They steal our socks and move our books, and when winter comes the pinch a glove or two, sneaking in quietly, almost politely they listen in as we blame the home work eating dog or the washing machine, as one by one our items disappear. Smiling to them selves slightly at another nights job is done and another days pillage has been won!

I hope you like this, its just something I had in my mind and decided to jot down.

Journal Entry: I didn't ruin the wok, but I did break the freezer

I love to cook, and at the moment stir fries are my favourite thing to cook, the other night I was making one, and I asked my dad to come and check my vegetable to noodle ratio because I'm not the best person to judge food portions. When my dad came to check it he turned the heat up, I usually cook on a lower temperature so I know that the food is cooking inside and out, then after two minutes my dad asked if I had enough oil, and I knew that I had enough in, but because he turned the heat up full the food began to stick to the pan so I of course I got the blame. Because I was annoyed about this when I went to get something out of the freezer, all I could think about was the wok and because I wasn't concentrating, the draw fell out and shattered on the floor... well done me!

Just my luck
